Emergency Medical Services

NEW PROGRAM OFFERING BEGINNING IN 2024-25 SCHOOL YEAR

CLASSES WILL TAKE PLACE AT LEWIS COUNTY-JCC CENTER IN LOWVILLE

Emergency responders are on the front lines of saving lives, the first ones to get the call to arrive at the scene in a medical or health related emergency. Students in the Emergency Medical Services program will learn the valuable skills of providing emergency medical care to patients experiencing a variety of illnesses or injuries.

Learning CPR

First year students will learn life-saving skills such as CPR and hemorrhage control. Second year students will continue their journey through the emergency medical technician curriculum and job shadowing at local fire departments, ambulance services, hospitals, and more. 

Successful graduates will qualify for further state and national certification as a Certified First Responder and Emergency Medical Technician.

This is a two-year program for high school juniors and seniors. Students will have the opportunity to earn up to four credits per year in the following areas: Participation in Government, Health, English, Science, and Math.

Emergency responders

Sample units of study include medical terminology, cardiopulmonary resuscitation, anatomy and physiology, medicine, trauma, and more. 

Career opportunities include ambulance services, hospitals, doctor’s offices, fire departments, private industry and other areas of emergency service.

We have articulation agreements with Jefferson Community College and Mohawk Valley Community College.

BOCES students also have the opportunity to earn up to 20 credits towards a two-year, AOS Business Degree at Jefferson Community College. Click here to learn more.
