Student getting ready to lift weights

Students in the Watertown ACES program can now add pumping iron to their Physical Education curriculum.

PE Instructor Nathan Dombroski has been working with other ACES staff members to begin building up a weight room at the instructional center. While staff has donated several items, the efforts received a huge boost thanks to a generous donation from DICK'S Sporting Goods. The Watertown store has graciously donated a weight set, an adjustable weight bench and flooring.

“I reached out to DICK'S Sporting Goods and told them that I wanted to build a weight room,” says Mr. Dombroski. “I explained that I wanted to improve the education our students receive in PE. They gave their support right away and wanted to help. They asked for a list of equipment we currently had and equipment we needed. Once I got that to them, they immediately offered me an incredible amount of equipment.”

The full donation included a 300lb weight set with a bar, an adjustable bench that can be inclined and declined, and a generous amount of flooring to protect the classroom.

“Because of their generosity, we were able to open the weight room ahead of schedule,” Mr Dombroski added. “This has made a big impact on many students and their motivation levels. This equipment will be enjoyed by many students for years to come.”

Thank you to DICK'S Sporting Goods and all BOCES staff that have made this new weight room a possibility for students.
