Students in the region now have increased access to fiction eBooks and audio books through their school libraries thanks to the Jefferson-Lewis BOCES School Library System and the North Country Library System.
The new partnership utilizes the reading app Sora, which has been available to students in the Jefferson-Lewis BOCES region since January 2021. Sora allows students in 17 school districts to borrow eBooks and audiobooks provided by the BOCES School Library System. Now with this new partnership, student access to reading material has been expanded to include thousands of titles offered through various libraries located in Jefferson, Lewis, Oswego, and St. Lawrence Counties.
“We’re very excited to increase access to fiction eBooks and audio books for students at a time where they are spending more time at home and need access to engaging literature,” says Meghan Gartland, School Library System Coordinator. “Throughout this pandemic, libraries have been finding new, creative ways to meet the needs of our students. Launching an additional eBook platform in addition to the ones that we have been providing is just one way libraries are adapting.”
"As public libraries prepare for summer reading, we're delighted to work with our school partners to provide increased access to students of all ages who are looking for a good book,” says Angela Newman, Youth Services Consultant, North Country Library System.
Students who are interested in accessing books available through the School Library System and North Country Library System should contact their school librarian for more information.
