Attention all homebuyers! If you've been mulling over the idea of owning a modular home, then Jefferson-Lewis BOCES has an opportunity that's as unique as it is educational. The Career & Technical Education Department is inviting individuals interested in having a modular home constructed to connect with the Carpentry programs located in both Jefferson and Lewis Counties.

Student-Crafted Homes – Skills and Savings Combined

Boasting one of the most hands-on learning experiences for aspiring builders, Jefferson-Lewis BOCES offers students in 11th and 12th grades a chance to construct a modular home from the ground up. Individual projects will take place at both the Bohlen Technical Center in Watertown, NY, and the Sackett Technical Center in Glenfield, NY. By partaking in this project, students hone their skills in real-world scenarios, benefiting both their education and your home buying experience.

Your Participation in the Building Process

Those considering this opportunity to own a modular home built by the next generation of expert carpenters must meet specific requirements. Prospective buyers are responsible for designing the detailed blueprints of their desired home in conjunction with an engineer hired by the BOCES for this purpose. Additionally, all costs related to materials and supplies will be shouldered by the buyer, ensuring that the design and quality meet their individual needs and standards. Once the construction is completed on the BOCES campus, the buyer must also arrange for transportation to relocate the modular home to its permanent location.

Preparing for a Productive School Year

Planning is already underway as both the Bohlen and Sackett Technical Centers are actively seeking inquiries, laying the groundwork for construction to commence with the onset of the 2024-25 school year this September.

Quality Education Leads to Quality Homes

Jefferson-Lewis BOCES takes immense pride in imparting practical skills that will last a lifetime, and the Carpentry program is a testament to that commitment. Through constructing modular homes, students are instilled with craftsmanship, attention to detail, and a strong work ethic that will underpin their future careers.

Interested parties are encouraged to reach out to the Career & Technical Education offices at the respective technical centers to express interest or gather more information.
