Comprehensive Training to Get You Moving
The CDL Class B program is designed to align with the latest FMCSA standards, preparing you for a career behind the wheel of commercial vehicles. You’ll receive targeted training in two essential areas:
- Theory Course: Develop a solid foundation in vehicle operation, safety regulations, and driver responsibilities. Complete the online curriculum at your own pace, with assessments to track your progress.
- Behind-the-Wheel Training: Master essential driving skills, from shifting and maneuverability to road test preparation and safety checks. With up to 30 hours of hands-on instruction, you’ll train on both manual and automatic transmission vehicles, building the confidence to succeed.

Program Enrollment Process
CDL-B Driver Training is a two-step process
Step 1 requires pre-enrollment activities.
Step 2 requires enrolling in each course in sequence.
Refund Policy
Should a student withdraw before Week 3 of the program, the following refund schedule will be applied:
- Before training begins: Full refund
- After Week 1: 50% refund
- After Week 2: 25% refund
- After Week 3: No refund
Step 1: Pre-Enrollment
Except for the Commercial Learner’s Permit, pre-enrollment can be arranged with the BOCES Transportation Office, by calling 315-779-7000.
- NYS DOT Medical Examiner’s Certificate
- NYS DOT Drug Screen
- FMCSA Clearinghouse Enrollment
- NYS DMV Commercial Learner’s Permit with Air Brake endorsement
- Any positive drug test is reviewed by a Medical Review Officer – Additional Fee will apply if applicable.
Step 2: Enrollment
All courses can be arranged via the BOCES Transportation Office, by calling 315-779-7000.
- Theory Course: Online, self-paced curriculum
- Behind the Wheel Range & Road Course-up to 30 hours of Training
- Includes one New York State Department of Motor Vehicles Road Test
Program Pricing Details
The CDL-B training program includes classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel training, and pre-trip inspection preparation designed to help students meet all state and federal licensing requirements. Tuition covers instruction, training materials, and scheduled road testing. Additional fees may apply for permits, endorsements, and retesting if needed. A breakdown of program costs is provided below.
If the drug test is positive, a $125.00 fee will be charged to cover the review by a Medical Review Officer (MRO).
Government Funded Grant and Tuition Asisstance
If you are unemployed, underemployed, recently laid off, or have been out of the labor force, you may qualify for a Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) grant. The WIOA grant will pay for 100% of your tuition and possibly all pre-enrollment costs.

Additional Course Options:
Road Hours
Additional behind the wheel range and road hours may be required at an hourly rate of $175 if a driver trainee’s proficiency is determined to be insufficient by the instructor.
Additional Road Tests
Should a driver require more than one road test, a $40 fee is required for each test.
